In spite of a relatively low specific weight, carbon fabric offers high strength and rigidity. Chemical carbon fabric is mostly inert, electrical conductive, thermical stable, infusible, biocompatible and permeable for X-rays. The structure of carbon fabric is resembling graphite. Carbon fabric is available in twill weave 2/2 resp. plain weave.

Carbon fabrics have various useable characteristics. With a relatively low weight it shows a high strength and high rigidity, chemically its mostly inert, electrically conductive, thermally stable, infusible, biocompatible and permeable for X-rays.

Due to this carbon fabric can be used in various fields. Responsible for the excellent characteristics is the kind of chemical binding of the carbon atoms in the resembling graphite structure of the fiber.

Without carbon fabric many constructive solutions in the field aeronautics never would have been possible. In the field of power industry the reinforcing fibers are used for realization of wind energy constructions and fly wheels in fuel cell technology for high pressure gas containers and gas diffusion constructions, for petroleum exploration in rising pipes and for nuclear fuel preparation of centrifuges.

In medical technology carbon fabric can be found in X-ray tables, implants and fixations. Industrial applications of carbon fabric are e.g. rolling for the paper- and print industry, but also optical and carrying construction parts in the automotive industry.
